Biography of Tony Elumelu

 Tony Elumelu is a billionaire Nigerian businessman with over $1 billion in net worth. He is the chairman of Heirs Holdings Limited, which is a conglomerate that owns stakes in many different Nigerian businesses. His conglomerate is also the parent company of United Bank for Africa (UBA), which is the largest bank in Nigeria.

Tony Elumelu was born in the Nigerian city of Enugu in January 1955. His parents were both Igbo Nigerian farmers who grew cocoa and coffee, and he was the fifth of fourteen children. Because Nigeria was under the colonial rule of the British at the time, he was raised in a Christian household and attended the Anglican Church of Nigeria. He attended the Federal Government College and was an excellent student. He then attended and graduated from the University of Nigeria in 1976 with a degree in business administration.




After graduating from the University of Nigeria, Tony Elumelu found a job as a management trainee at United African Company. After two years at the company he was promoted to the position of a sales representative. He had started his own company, Transafrica, in 1984. This company was based in the United States and sold second-hand computers. He also started a company called Transnational Industrial and Commerce Limited (TICL) in 1986. This company was based in Nigeria and dealt with shipping and import/export. In 1989, he started another company called Transcorp. This company was based in Nigeria and dealt with manufacturing and real estate.
